Christmastime around the Lou is so beautiful with the lights downtown, the Arch in the soft glow of green and red lights, carolers, holiday parties, and yes, eating far too much. For many of our staff and leadership with R&A Contracting, we hold this season in a sacred sense.

Our founder and president Sam Rowley embodies a deep, meaningful faith in Jesus Christ as the reason for celebrating the Christmas season. Of course, we don’t expect our team members, clients, or anyone else connected with R&A Contracting to necessarily hold this same faith. And yet, faith is what fuels our drive for excellence, integrity, and grace with each conversation and project.

Faith is what also turns our eyes towards this city that we love so dearly. What we see this Christmas season gives us heartache followed with hope.

We see that thousands of individuals and families across the greater St. Louis area are experiencing hunger and food insecurity every day. We see the damages of drug addiction sweeping across all counties, even the ones that seem to ‘have it all together’. We see division, in-fighting, hypocrisy, and selfishness fueling political and socioeconomic wars that threaten our future as a state and a nation. We see racism and prejudice of all kinds as those who would be neighbors are ostracized and ridiculed for simply being different from another.

This stark reality tempts us to see only the evil, the corruption of what’s good and right and true. What’s easy to miss, but is slowly growing and reaching for the future, is a profound hope that 2019 and beyond will be better.

We see hunger and food insecurity being stamped out through our Meals for a Million initiative. We see addiction recovery programs springing up around St. Louis. We see churches, after-school organizations, nonprofits, community leaders, and elected officials having long-overdue conversations around unity, racism, prejudice, privilege, and building a better tomorrow.

This is the hope we want to share. Some may ask, “What does any of this have to do with commercial roofing? What business does a commercial roofing company have talking about faith, racism, food scarcity, and drug addiction?”

If we are not part of the solution, then we are complicit with that same heartache simply through our inaction. We believe the best days of St. Louis are still ahead of us if we will step into messy conversations and learn from each other. We are a company who obsesses with helping business leaders and community organizations focus on what truly matters. For every moment you spend worrying about a leaking roof, it’s one less moment you’re able to be in meetings and in conversations with others about reconciliation and giving hope to St. Louis.

That’s why we see each project we take as a God-given responsibility. We do our jobs right the first time to minimize the amount of time required of you. That’s what allows you to invest your time and concerns elsewhere that will impact more than just your building.

There are also some who may feel sharing our faith is becoming our sole objective as a business, that we’re ‘forcing religion’ on others. While we feel strongly about our faith, we also know not everyone else does. For many, the idea of faith and business mixing is uncomfortable, even a deal-breaker in some cases. Let us assure you we believe in acting out our faith with a extraordinary result for each of our clients. If how we do our work causes you to question what you believe, then we aim for the greatest result possible.

It’s what brings us to this moment here. As you read this article, it may find you with your own questions and concerns. What does this Christmas season look like for you? Our prayer for you can be summed into one word: hope.

We pray for you to find lasting hope this Christmas season. May you be inspired to find more hope in 2019. May you be overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness of others as you bustle through your work day. May you be intimately aware of the closeness of God and consider where your faith may be.

This may be an uncomfortable concept for you to face right now, but there’s a reason you’re still reading this. It may be because you’re starving for hope. Maybe your business is not where you want it to be right now. Maybe your marriage is headed towards disaster, and all you see is dark before you. Maybe you’re facing a recent diagnosis or news that is daunting, even scary. Let us leave you with one final message to savor…

We see you.

We see your struggles and questions as our team talks with you on the phone or shakes your hand on the job site. We recognize the stress and anxiety that can come with a schedule more jam-packed than usual. We know what it’s like to stare into the face of uncertainty, fear, and heartache.

Most importantly, God sees you. His love is ready to be unleashed into your life so you can sense His presence and goodness guiding you. Even if you say you have no faith right now, you do have some faith that tomorrow may be better than today.

That is the starting point we want you to see this Christmas season. God’s not done with you yet. If there’s another breath in your lungs, there’s another chance in your bones, and we can’t wait to see what 2019 means for you.

From all of us at R&A Contracting, we wish you hope and joy as you celebrate this Christmas season. May you know that the best years are still ahead of you.

– The R&A Contracting team

I’d be an idiot if I did not take this opportunity to communicate to you how much we appreciate the way in which you conduct business and take care of our facility. In my experience you, and your team, are at the top of the list of all the roofing companies I’ve dealt with over the years. Thank you!

Jim Lowry - Bissinger's Handcrafted Chocolatier

Eric and crew were really nice to have around. They were courteous, careful and caused little if any disruption. Their work looks good too! To be honest… a good experience with a product that I initially had misgivings about. I’m a convert because of Bubba, Sam and Eric. Thank you.

Jim Lowry - Bissinger's Handcrafted Chocolatier

“I want to thank the crew at R&A for a job well done on our very leaky roof at the shop. It is certainly nice to have the drips and rivers gone from the shop when it is raining. I also wanted you to know how much we appreciated that the guys were able to stay out of our way and allowed us to do business as usual without any problems or interruptions. The roof looks great and the clean-up after the job made it so we couldn’t even tell you’d been here. Thanks for doing what you do so well!”

Jay Moore, President of Safe Way Tire and Auto Center

“My wife and I were on vacation when water pipes burst in our house. We got a hold of Craig and the R&A crew was able to start evacuating the water immediately. The best part was that they were able to start work before we even returned home. It was a very fast turnaround considering the extensive amount of water damage.”

Will from Dardenne Prairie, MO

“Craig and Mike came out in a timely fashion when we needed the work done. They did a reliable and quality job.”

Jerry from SLR Properties

“Craig helped us out tremendously with the insurance process. Timely and very professional.”

Lindell from Greater Missouri Builders (GMB)

“We purchased a house and there was some damage to the roof. Very impressed with the thoroughness of Mike’s inspection. Very comfortable with their explanation of what needed to be fixed. Most impressive was the way they protected our landscaping. Really liked the way they treated me as a valued customer, even though it was only a small project.”

Ross from Troy, MO

“I use R&A Contracting when my commercial roofs receive storm damage. They work on our behalf through every step of the insurance claim process. They perform all of the work and complete the insurance process, making our roofs better than they were before the storm.”

Director of Facilities for a large Property Management Company

“The team at R & A Contracting responded immediately when notified of our water disaster. They removed water-damaged materials and property quickly and restored our home even before the final settlement from our insurance company. They minimized how long our family had to live in a hotel and got us back to normal as fast as possible.”

Will from O'Fallon, MO
